The Boys

Being the Mum of 5 sons has meant that I've spent an inordinate amount of time in our Laundry room. If I look back the two thing's that have defined my time in there are jeans & hoodies. A pain to wash & an even bigger pain to dry especially in the deepest, darkest, coldest days of a Hills Winter. When I saw this wonderful painting recently by Melbourne artist Juan Ford, I felt that if ever a visual image summed up all the years I've spent with my boys, this would definitely be it! A hoodie has been their uniform, complete with broken zips, ripped cuffs & bands, JB & Cola stains & the odd cigarette burn or two! Ford has got the stance perfect, hands in pockets & the hips slightly askew, ready to swagger off to meet their mates. I just love it!

  1. I feel your pain, and the stains of the laundry and the joy of raising boys, my twin boys also love jeans and hoodies. My husband thinks that the clothes never leave their body -- like that painting.

  3. Laundry and boys!

I have one boy and he seems to bring down a big pile of clothes to be washed, especially if he is getting low and running out of things to wear.

Five boys Millie, you must be Wonder Woman and I take my hat off to you.

    Have a great week

  5. Love that painting-it should be hanging in your laundry area!
I am spoiled... when J and I got married, he had been living alone for a while. He said, "I've always done my own laundry and I don't expect you to do it now"...
o.k., not a problem. He even taught my son to use the w and d at 9 years old-and Jonathan started doing his own laundry by the time he was 10 or 11!!! A good thing for a young boy to know, don't you think?
