Doing some research for self-contained accommodation near Ballarat in regional Victoria for a weekend in December, I stumbled across the delightful Camellia Cottage. Located a few minutes from the city in the little town of Buninyong, the cottage is c.1862 & is believed to have been built for Dr Casey, the grandfather of Lord Casey a former Governor General of Australia. Rosemary & Gavin Pike always wanted to run a B&B in their retirement, so designed & built a guest wing attached to their beautiful home. It offers boutique-style accommodation in comfortable & elegant surroundings.

Some of the gorgeous camellia's, which are at their best right nowI had the opportunity to speak with Rosemary yesterday & she was just a delight, so warm & welcoming. She & Gavin have created a stunning little retreat in a glorious region of Victoria - no chintz & dusty dried-flowers here thank goodness!!

ReplyDeleteI'm so excited right now I have a job to type properly! I know of this B&B...there was a feature of it in Country Style magazine January/February 2007. I have just spent 15 minutes hunting through all my magazines. It is simply devine. I drooled over the pictures for weeks. I know you will love it there Millie, if the pictures are anything to go by....and it was nice to see some different pictures of Camellia Cottage. Thanks for sharing. Have a great start to the week.

ReplyDeletethat would be one of life's greatest indulgences is to have an attached guest cottage. I would love to do just what the Pikes have done but in Scotland. The operative word is 'love', not 'can'. Truly a gorgeous place down to the roses & fox glove; but you had me at the word, 'Buninyong'!! I hope MOTH is packing his bags for Paris?
