I've always had an aversion to the ordinary garden variety Gladioli. Well I need to think again, as the boys at VSF (Very Special Flowers) in New York have created a right beauty with this mass arrangement of white Gladdies. Who would have thought they could look so fantastic in all their singular glory!
I have bad memories of the horrendous triangular Interflora plastic bowl floral 'arrangements' (see below) of year's (& other husband's) past - yuk! And I reckon I wouldn't be the only one. MOTH has always had fab taste in flowers (with a little help from the girls at Victoria's in Hyde Park over the years) bless him! Dame Edna's excessive use of the multi-coloured varieties - not good!
I do like the miniature varieties... but those others that often appear in...funeral arragements in the triangle shape like you mentioned- not so much!!!
ReplyDeleteBut given the choice- I would take your darling Sweet Peas.
I just ADORE that arrangement! I do not think I have seen anything quite lovely, I must say! Wow! :)
ReplyDeleteI decided a while back that the old gladi was much maligned! I'm a closet fan too, and that first arrangement determines it once and for all!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree, I have always hated those arrangements and at funerals they seem to proliferate. That one with them all bunched is gorgeous. I also like some in a tall vase with just gladioli. They are also beautiful planted in a bunch in the garden kind of like the arrangement you posted. Saw some dark orange ones planted like that and it was gorgeous.

I have given the gladi a second chance too. Its definately a case of what you do with them. That probably applies to most flowers.
ReplyDeleteIf they're good enough for the Dame, then they're good enough for me. Love the first arrangement, very stylish.
ReplyDeleteinformal arrangements are best for gladioli, i think, as they themselves look so structured. hope your foot is improving...
ReplyDeleteNo can do Millie...sorry, there are just too many memories that won't let that happen, xv.
ReplyDeleteSO SORRY...
ReplyDeletevote those glads OFF the island. Keep the sweet peas, darling!
xoxo
from the lusty busty beach, baby!
Wow! The Gladi revival!!! When you first mentioned the word I thought of Dame Edna too. Thank Goodness for New Yorkers!! Any flowers would suit me today anyway in the state I'm in! Thanks for the kind words...
ReplyDeleteThey are the funeral flower to me. They seem to be in every spray although the way they are arranged in the photo is very nice. Maybe time for a re-think. :)
ReplyDeleteMum always has a huge bunch of red gladis at Christmas in a tall clear crystal glass so whenever I see them I think of Christmas and who doesn't like reminders like that!
ReplyDeletePS - Thanks for your comments... for more stocking ideas I'm sure you could try One Rundle Trading in Dulwich, Uccello on King William Road or Little Bird in Port Elliot - if you're feeling like a drive :)
I think that you are right Mill's.
ReplyDeleteI have never been keen on glad's. I hate it when people plant them in a line, like soldier's and they are often very gaudy, but those white ones you have shown are fantastic. I could live with a few arrangements like that, if anyone reading this would like to send me a some !!!! XXXX
Hmm...this arrangement almost changed my mind...I'd keep the sweet pea's! Ax
ReplyDeletethat arrangement of glads is beautiful- i an with you they are bit stuffy for my taste usually..
ReplyDeleteKaren
I LOVE GLADIOLI, as a florsit I love all flowers. I tend to have a special soft spot for the 'daggy' flowers like the 'glad' and carnations. That vase of white glads is absolutely fab, done to perfection.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is your intentions, but it seems a little bit to me like you are hinting some future places of employment for me. First the Flower Garden in Nairne and now Victoria's. I did email The flower garden to see if they were hiring. No response, I'm sure they thought that my email was some spam garbage. Thank you. Hope your foot is on the mend. If I was there I'd whip you up a batch of cannabis fudge (it is legal there, isn't it?)Love ya, Heidi
