My thanks to the Academy for finally, finally going down the Less Is More route with this year's production. The ridiculous, over-the-top & quite frankly cringeworthy excesses of the past thankfully disappeared this year. See, you can do it if you really try.
P.S. I hope Simone gets back from swanning around Italy pronto - I'm busting to see her annual post-Oscars Name & Shame post.

my favorite part was sandra bullock presenting best actor award. so beautiful, such class, such wit. love her!
ReplyDeletewater for elephants... we had our book club mtg this weekend. half liked it. half didn't. those who didn't were bothered by the animal abuse and people abuse ("redlighting"). i thought it was good, not great, but good.
I really enjoyed the whole ceremony - Anne Hathaway had such fun and her enthusiasm was catching by all than her co-host who was a little too dry! What about Melissa Leo and the 'f' word! And Kirk Douglas was hilarious even though he looked like he was barely alive!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. My vote for next years cohosts! Grat chemistry and easy on the eyes!
ReplyDeleteAnd Millie, I don't know if you got back over to my blog. But Alfie would take on those pampered poodles just as he is!
Hope you enjoyed your weekend.
xoxo,
Lisa & Alfie
Millie,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the comment. If you like, do try the exercise yourself. I found it on a blog and at first I was just going to do it for myself.
I thought the dresses were much better this year. A lovely departed friend who did colors (skin tone to what your should wear) often would say they do such a bad job of picking the right colors. I can never watch the Oscars without think of her and judging each gown against her standards. I do pretty too.
But the pictures that linger in my head are of the jewelry. The diamonds sparkled!

ReplyDeleteI love Kirk Douglas there, still witty after all these years ♥
ReplyDeleteAnd of course I enjoyed looking at the stars' gowns and accessories ... Reese Witherspoon's black and white gown from Armani Prive and Mila Kunis' lavender gown by Elie Saab are gorgeous...
I love watching the Oscars (good and bad!) every year. My only complaint is to wonder why they decided they needed 10 films in the "best picture" category? It was tough enough to pick a best picture when there were only 5!
