Love this transformation of a not so pretty run-down 1930's caretaker's house on a 17 acre farm in Connecticut into the cutest little cottage. The Owners are currently living here while restoring the historic farmhouse elsewhere on the property. Once that task is complete, this cottage will become the guest house. My favourite detail is the new sun-room on the eastern side of the the building. 
Life in the little village of Stirling in the hills above Adelaide in South Australia is just about as good as it gets! Enjoying a cool climate and 'hill-station' feel, Stirling is well-known for its 19th-century stone villas set on large grounds dense with roses, camellias, rhododendrons and huge old Oaks. With 3 sons, 3 grandchildren & my work in a scientific business dominated by yes, more men, The Laurel Hedge was born out of my sheer desperation for something the boys just don't get & never will!
I love little, quaint homes. One day I shall move into one. We often buy our homes as a symbol of our station, so builders will always go for bigger, greater, gigantemous... Dreaming of a cottage lifestyle someday...

The owner have done such an amazing job, anytime I see something like this I wonder if I ever had the chance to do something like this, would I be able to pull it off this well!!??!! Oh my, what a gorgeous transformation! They did such a great job, I love seeing such potential brought out for all to see. That sunroom has beautiful windows, I can imagine the light in there would be heavenly! Not to be nosey.. but I really want to see that barn off to the side now...

I get a bit fed up with seeing luxurious, over-the-top type homes that, not many of us can afford, which are often quite sterile and impersonal, wheras this has character and a soul and looks wonderful. ReplyDeleteHello! I love the porch. I have a story and a half house that sits the same way on the lot. I wanted to make an addition on the front but could not figure out how to make it look right. The way the porch extends past the sunroom could be the perfect solution. Would you please tell me how deep the porch is? I would be forever grateful.....
